Stones continuously fall from hills, blocking key highways in northern India amidst torrential rainfall
In a concerning incident in northern India’s Uttarakhand, continuous stonefall from a hill resulted in the blockage of major highways due to landslides.
The incident took place near Kameda village in Chamoli district on September 13.
Visuals showed rocks tumbling down the hill, highlighting the potential hazards caused by the landslide. Police authorities appeared visibly concerned, seen actively monitoring the situation throughout the day.
According to reports, the Badrinath National Highway was blocked at multiple points, including Kameda, Nandprayag, and Chhinka, following heavy rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across parts of northern India, particularly Uttarakhand. Schools have been closed in nine districts, including Bageshwar and Champawat, due to the weather alert.
Additionally, key national highways have been closed, causing significant disruption across the hill state of Uttarakhand.
