Speeding car loses control, rams into pedestrians
One person was killed, and four others, including BJP state secretary Abhijat Mishra, were injured in a hit-and-run accident on the Raebareli-Prayagraj highway
The incident occurred near Pragatipuram of Raebareli district in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, on January 15.
Visuals show a car speeding away with one of its doors open, while two individuals lay injured on the roadside, and locals attempted to intercept the vehicle.
According to reports, police rushed the victims to the district hospital after being alerted to the accident. A 67-year-old man was declared dead, and the other pedestrian sustained injuries. Mishra and his colleague Bhanu Tiwari were also injured.
Mishra recounted, “We were traveling toward Prayagraj and had briefly stopped at a hotel before continuing our journey. Shortly after, we noticed two injured pedestrians on the road and stopped to help. While assisting, we were struck by another vehicle, causing injuries to me and my companion.”
Mill Area police station SHO Rajeev Singh stated, “The car involved in the incident has been taken into custody, and efforts are underway to trace the driver. The deceased’s body has been sent for a postmortem, and the matter is under investigation.”
It was also noted that similar accidents have occurred on the Raebareli-Prayagraj highway. Resident Ashuvendra Singh emphasized the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures, particularly at the highway cuts where it passes through densely populated areas of the city.
