Southern India’s flyovers and bridges swarm with vehicles seeking refuge from relentless rain flooding
In an unusual scene in southern India’s Tamil Nadu, vehicles were parked on major flyovers and bridges as drivers sought refuge from potential water damage during heavy rains.
The incident took place in Chennai city and the video went viral on October 15.
Visuals showed a long queue of vehicles stationed on both sides of the bridge while the rain continued to pour, and other vehicles operated on the same bridge amidst the downpour.
According to reports, torrential rains have been disrupting normal life in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, causing severe traffic jams and halting public transport. Domestic flights were also canceled due to the inclement weather. The India Meteorological Department has warned that the low-pressure system may intensify into a depression and cross the Chennai coast by the morning of October 17.
