Update: Son sets mother on fire at northern India police station in daylight
In a shocking incident in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, a son heartlessly set his mother on fire in the premises of a police station in broad daylight.
The incident took place outside Khair Police Station in Aligarh district on July 16.

Visuals showed the woman walking while pouring a substance, reportedly kerosene, on herself. As a man filmed, a policeman approached, causing the woman to retreat. The officer tried to take something, likely a lighter, from her hand. In the struggle, the lighter fell to the ground. The man picked it up and allegedly set his mother on fire, capturing the horrific act on video.

According to reports, after the incident, Aligarh SSP Sanjeev Suman stated that “The woman was set on fire by her son at the police station. During our investigation, it was found that Hemlata had a dispute over land with her husband’s maternal uncle and other family members. An FIR was filed, and charges have been filed in the case. Today, both parties were called to the police station to discuss financial matters, but they could not reach an agreement. Subsequently, the woman left the station, where her son allegedly used a lighter to set her on fire.”
Reportedly, the injured woman was transferred from the CHC (Community Health Center) to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College for treatment, where she tragically passed away during medical care.
