Snow-clearing mission in full swing as fresh snowfall blankets northern India’s Zoji La Pass
In a major snow-clearing effort in northern India’s Ladakh, the Border Road Organization (BRO) mobilized personnel and machinery to clear fresh snowfall from the highway, particularly around Zoji La Pass.
The incident took place on the Srinagar-Leh highway at Zoji La Pass, located in Kargil district on November 12.
Visuals showed a bulldozer pushing through the thick layer of snow, clearing the way for safe vehicular movement. However, the highway remained closed for traffic as crews continued to work through the snowfall.
According to reports, the pass, situated at 11,575 feet in Kargil district, saw a layer of fresh snow accumulate after light snowfall on November 11. The snowfall extended to the upper reaches of Sonamarg, a popular health resort in Ganderbal district, also resulting in a temperature drop. With snow coverage around the pass and surrounding areas, locals and travelers were advised to proceed with caution.
