Snakes cause commotion in central India: battle and intrusion alarm locals

Central India’s Madhya Pradesh witnessed a dramatic snake encounter recently, with a fierce battle between a snake and a mongoose halting traffic and a separate incident causing alarm at a local furniture warehouse.

The incident took place at Khurai, Sagar district, one near the Polytechnic College and the other on Bhusa Mandi Road on August 18.

Visuals showed in a dimly lit furniture warehouse, a long snake was hidden behind a tall cupboard. The snake’s sleek body was coiled tightly in the narrow space, almost blending with the shadows. The air was tense as snake experts carefully approached, their tools ready. After a cautious and skillful extraction, the snake was safely captured. Its scales glinted subtly in the light, later to be released into a safe, natural environment.

In Khurai, two notable snake-related incidents captured public attention. Near the Polytechnic College, a fierce confrontation unfolded between a snake and a mongoose, drawing a crowd of onlookers who stopped their vehicles to witness the unusual scene. Witness Suresh Patel described how the mongoose, being smaller, repeatedly darted into bushes to evade the snake, resulting in a roughly 90-minute standoff before both animals disappeared into the foliage.

In a separate event, a snake was discovered hiding behind a wardrobe in a furniture warehouse on Bhusa Mandi Road. The sight of the snake sent workers fleeing in fear. Snake catcher Sameem Khan was called to the scene and successfully captured the serpent, which was identified as a six-foot-long Russell’s Viper. Khan reported that the snake was found with its hood raised, creating a dangerous situation that required careful handling.
