Snake catcher captures mating snake pair in central India

A snake catcher in the central India’s Madhya Pradesh successfully captured a mating pair of snakes, bringing relief to local residents who had been living in fear for the past three to four days.

The incident took place near a residential colony in the tenth battalion area of Sagar district on July 1.

Visuals showed a snake expert was carefully extracting two snakes from a residential area. A crowd had gathered around, watching intently. The snakes were moving restlessly, causing quite a commotion. Many people in the vicinity were visibly frightened, adding to the tense atmosphere.

According to reports the snakes were seen near a residential colony by the roadside. Frightened residents called snake catcher Junior Baba Asad twice to capture the snakes. In the morning, upon receiving the call, Asad arrived at the tenth battalion approximately half an hour later. He managed to catch the 4-foot-long female snake, but the male snake escaped.

The local residents, aware that the pair had been together for several days, requested Asad to release the female snake, hoping they would reunite and be easier to catch together. Asad complied, and about four hours later, another call came in reporting the pair near a ruin. When Asad arrived, the 6-foot-long male snake and the 4-foot-long female snake had retreated into a room in the ruins.

After a 15-minute struggle, Asad successfully captured both snakes. However, the male snake exhibited aggression, attacking Asad’s motorcycle tire, making it difficult to remove him. Once captured, the snakes were placed in a bag, and Asad informed that they would be released into the forest with the help of forest department officials.

Such sightings are common during the rainy season, which is the mating season for snakes. While these events often cause fear, the successful capture of the snakes brought relief to the local residents.
