Smuggling plot exposed! Passenger hides gold in cream box; customs officials see through the ‘shine.’
In a recent smuggling attempt thwarted in northern India’s Delhi, customs officials intercepted a passenger arriving from Riyadh with 117 grams of gold disguised as a silver-colored bar. The bar was cleverly concealed inside a cream box.
The incident occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi during routine baggage screening on November 26.
Visuals showed an official using a hammer to open the cream box’s lid carefully. Once opened, the cream was removed, revealing the silver-coated gold bar hidden inside, marking a significant seizure.
According to reports, the suspicious images observed during an X-ray baggage scan prompted the detailed inspection. Customs authorities emphasized their continued vigilance in cracking down on innovative smuggling tactics under the Customs Act, of 1962.
