Sloth bear intrudes residential area in southern India, returns to jungle after brief encounter
In a surprising incident, a sloth bear from a nearby forest wandered into a residential area in southern India’s Kerala, causing a brief scare among the locals before eventually retreating back to the wild.
The incident took place at Manjoor village in northern Kottayam district on May 21.
Visuals showed in a residential area, a sloth bear wandered in from the nearby jungle. It roamed around, sometimes climbing onto roofs and balconies. People spotted it even nibbling on a mesh screen of a house. After a while, when locals arrived, the bear retreated back into the jungle.
Residents of a quiet neighborhood were startled when a sloth bear ventured into their community from the adjacent forest. The bear was seen roaming on rooftops, exploring balconies, and even chewing on a mesh installed at one house.
The unexpected visitor caused quite a commotion as it moved from house to house, with several residents witnessing the bear’s curious behavior. As the bear made its way through the area, it did not harm any residents or cause significant property damage. However, the presence of the wild animal prompted concerns about safety and the encroachment of wildlife into human habitats.
