In a heart-stopping incident in northern India’s Bihar, a stampede was narrowly averted during the fourth Monday of Sawan, which is a significant occasion for rituals including bathing at the ghat.
The incident took place at the Ganga Ghat in Bhagalpur district on August 12.
Visuals showed the overcrowded Ganga Ghat, where thousands of people gathered to perform rituals. The situation quickly escalated as the crowd became uncontrollable, leading to a chaotic stampede.
According to reports, the barricading in the river broke, and several women and children were at risk of drowning after reaching deep waters and the stampede situation persisted for about 30 minutes. However, the timely intervention of the SDRF team, which was deployed at the site, prevented a major tragedy. More than 12 SDRF and Aapada Mitra personnel jumped into the Ganga and managed to save the lives of all those who were in danger.
