In a startling incident in central India’s Madhya Pradesh, a 3-year-old boy swallowed a Rs 5 coin while playing, causing panic among his family.
The incident took place in Niwari village of Rehli city in Sagar district on August 13.
Visuals showed an X-ray revealing the coin lodged in the child’s throat. The attending doctor, Dr. Sandeep Asati, was seen explaining the critical situation and the meticulous treatment that saved the boy’s life.
Speaking to NewsLions, duty Dr. Sandeep Asati stated it was on Wednesday, that after confirming the coin was lodged in the child’s throat, he used a Foley catheter to remove it. The procedure involved inserting the catheter through the child’s nose and then inflating a small balloon with 7 ml of air at the tip. As the catheter was gently pulled out, the balloon helped bring the coin up to the throat, safely removing it through the mouth. The child is now completely safe.
Reportedly, on Tuesday night around 11 PM, 3-year-old Nirmal Ahirwar from Nivari village was brought to the Community Health Center after a 5-rupee coin got stuck in his throat while playing. Duty doctor Sandeep Asati advised the family to return if the coin didn’t pass overnight. When it remained lodged the next morning, an X-ray confirmed its position, and treatment was administered, relieving the child and his family.
