Severe rainfall devastates major road in northeastern India
June 13, 2024
Heavy rainfall in northeastern India’s Sikkim has caused significant damage, disrupting travel and isolating communities.
The incident took place at Mangan Bazar in Mangan District in north Sikkim on June 13.
Visuals showed after heavy rainfall, a road was completely damaged and broken, with debris and stones scattered across it. The path was entirely blocked.
Heavy rain since Monday night triggered landslides at several locations in Sikkim and threw normal life out of gear in the mountain state.
Debris and boulders which descended from the hills blocked many roads, including NH10 — the principal highway that connects Sikkim with the rest of the country.
