SDRF saves life of Kanwar pilgrim with CPR in northern India

A Kanwar pilgrim was rescued from drowning at Kangra Ghat in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh by a quick-response team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), who administered life-saving CPR and first aid.

 

The incident took place at Kangra Ghat in the Kangra district on August 1.

Visuals showed a man, who was drowning in the river and in an unconscious state, was successfully rescued by a rescue team. The team quickly reached the scene, pulled him out of the water, and administered CPR. Through their swift and effective actions, they revived him and brought him back to consciousness.

 

At approximately 1:45 PM on August 1, 2024, a Kanwar pilgrim was caught in the swift currents of a river while bathing at Kangra Ghat. Noticing the emergency, SDRF personnel, including Constables Shivam Singh, Surendra, and Sandeep, acted swiftly. Without delay, they jumped into the river, swam to the distressed pilgrim, and pulled him out of the water despite his unconscious state.

 

The SDRF team provided essential first aid, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), on-site. After extracting water from the pilgrim’s stomach and performing CPR, he regained consciousness and was handed over to his fellow pilgrims. The prompt and brave actions of the SDRF team were praised by other pilgrims and locals present at the scene.

 

The rescued individual was identified as Shivam, 24, son of Manoj Shukla, a resident of A-328, Raghuveer Nagar, Delhi. The SDRF team involved in the rescue included SI Pankaj Singh Kharola, Constables Pradeep Singh, Surendra Kumar, Shivam Singh, Anil Singh, Sandeep Singh, Rajat Tomar, Laxman Singh, and Manoj. Their swift and dedicated efforts played a crucial role in saving a life during this critical situation.
