SDRF rescues 17 people trapped by rising waters in northern India

The incident took place in the Kumalda Area of Tehri District on August 19.
Visuals showed amid a severe flood, the SDRF team was seen standing in a safe elevated area, away from the rushing waters. They were engaged in a critical rescue operation using a rope to help people stranded by the flood. The team members, positioned securely on stable ground, were skillfully maneuvering the rope to pull individuals from the treacherous waters. Each person was carefully and steadily guided across the swollen stream, one by one, until all the stranded tourists and locals were successfully brought to safety. The scene highlighted the SDRF’s precise coordination and bravery in ensuring the safe evacuation of everyone affected by the flood.
An emergency situation unfolded in the Kumalda area when the Jungle Stream overflowed, causing the collapse of a temporary bridge. The damaged bridge isolated a resort on the other side, trapping 8 tourists from Delhi and 9 local residents.
The local police station in Kumalda alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which responded promptly. Led by Sub-Inspector Lakshmi Rawat from the Sahastradhara post, the SDRF rescue team deployed immediately to the site.
Upon arrival, the team carried out swift operations to assist those stranded. Using ropes, they successfully evacuated all 17 individuals from the rapidly rising waters and transported them to safety. The rescued tourists expressed their gratitude to the SDRF for their efficient and courageous efforts.
The incident underscores the importance of timely response and preparedness in disaster management to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
