School bus submerged in floodwaters in western India, thankfully no children onboard
Heavy rains have led to severe flooding in rivers in western India’s Maharashtra, resulting in waterlogging and disruptions across different areas. The relentless downpour has left many areas submerged, causing significant difficulties for residents and commuters.
The incident took place in Thane district and the video went viral on July 14.
Visuals showed in a severely flooded area, a school bus was stranded in the midst of high water. The water level was significantly high, and not just the bus but other vehicles on the roads were also troubled by the floodwaters, creating a scene of heavy traffic and muddy, impassable paths.
Maharashtra’s Konkan region is experiencing severe weather conditions as torrential rains continue to batter the area. Bhiwandi has been one of the worst-hit regions, with the Kamwari River overflowing its banks and inundating residential areas. The continuous rainfall has led to a critical situation, with water entering homes and disrupting daily life.
In Thane district, particularly in the city of Bhiwandi, several localities are submerged under knee-deep water. The incessant rains have caused significant distress to the residents, as roads are flooded and water has entered homes. A school bus was found submerged, but fortunately, it was empty, averting a potential disaster. Numerous other vehicles have also been seen partially submerged in water.
The situation is equally dire in Kalyan, where heavy rainfall over the past two days has led to severe waterlogging, especially outside Kalyan West Railway Station. The lack of proper drainage has resulted in knee-deep water from Deepak Hotel to Kalyan Court, making it extremely difficult for commuters and shopkeepers. In Dombivli MIDC, waterlogging outside the post office has caused considerable inconvenience to the public.
As the rains continue, authorities are on high alert, and efforts are underway to manage the flood situation and assist affected residents. However, the persistent rainfall poses ongoing challenges, with more areas at risk of flooding.
