Rescue team saves leopard from 25-foot well, safely releases into sanctuary
A female leopard was rescued from a 25-foot deep well and safely released into a sanctuary by the Rapid Rescue team.
The rescue was carried out in Buldhana City, in northern India’s Maharashtra on January 26.
Visuals show the leopard swimming in the deep well, trying to figure out its way out. The animal attempts to climb the well by grabbing onto stones but fails. Later, it is seen lying on a rock inside the well, hissing at the people. The rescue team lowers a cage into the well using ropes and successfully pulls it out.
After the rescue, the leopard appears fine inside the cage. Moments later, the cage is seen in a vehicle in a forest with its gate open at night. The animal checks its surroundings and ensures its safety before slowly jumping out. It then enters the forest through the bushes.
Speaking to Newslions, Sandip Madavi of the Rapid Rescue Team in Buldhana mentioned that the team was informed about the leopard by a few villagers. The rescue was led by Sandip, along with a team of around 25 members. The operation lasted for approximately 4-5 hours. The leopard was successfully released into the Ambabarwa Wildlife Sanctuary by the team.
Abhi Tharke, Range Forest Officer, spoke to Newslions and shared his insights about the leopard’s rescue.
