Religious intolerance on full display: Hindu shopkeeper endures violent mob attack in Bangladesh
In a shocking display of communal violence, extremists attacked a Hindu shopkeeper in Bangladesh, creating distress and panic.
The incident took place in Mymensingh district on October 26
Visuals showed the harrowing moment when a group of enraged attackers stormed into the shop. The shopkeeper, unaware of the impending assault, was cornered, kicked, and subjected to relentless blows as chaos unfolded around him. The extremists shouted furiously, completely overtaking the premises and leaving the owner visibly shaken and helpless.
According to reports, the attack stemmed from the extremists’ claim that the Hindu shopkeeper had no right to operate a business in the area. This incident highlights the worsening plight of minorities in Bangladesh, a country grappling with communal unrest since the regime change on August 5. Previous waves of violence saw widespread attacks on Hindu minorities, with homes looted, women assaulted and lives lost.
Despite India urging Dhaka to implement protective measures for minorities, the interim government has turned a blind eye. This lack of action, coupled with police complicity, emboldens extremist groups to target Hindu communities, exacerbating tensions in the region.
