Relief operations intensified as floodwaters inundated southern India

In a critical development in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh, relief operations have been intensified as floodwaters continue to ravage the region.

The incident took place in the Budameru Rivulet of the NTR district on September 1.

Visuals showed rescue officers using boats to navigate the flood-affected areas, distributing essential supplies such as food, drinking water, and milk to the victims. Crowds were seen gathered in groups, receiving aid from vans, while officers worked diligently to evacuate people from low-lying areas and ensure their safety.

According to reports, as the floodwaters wreak havoc in the erstwhile undivided Krishna district, officials have ramped up relief efforts, focusing on the evacuation of residents and the provision of essential services. With the Prakasam Barrage receiving a significant surplus of 8,79,476 cusecs as of 5 pm on Sunday, all 70 gates have been lifted. A second flood warning has been issued, urging people living downstream of the barrage to exercise caution. The NTR and Krishna district administrations remain on high alert, coordinating efforts to minimize the loss of life and property.
