Reign of terror! Police brutality unfolds to silence demands for justice in Bangladesh
In a dramatic and violent escalation, police in Bangladesh ruthlessly attacked thousands of protesters calling for the release of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu, an International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) leader.
The chaos erupted in Chittagong district on November 26, where protesters, initially peaceful, were confronted with batons and sound grenades.
Visuals showed the intensity of the scene, showing protesters flung into the air as police unleashed chaos, sparking panic and fear among the masses. The protests, which gathered large numbers outside the Chittagong High Court, quickly turned violent under the brutal police assault.
According to reports, protesters demanding the immediate release of the outspoken monk, Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu, were met with an unrelenting police assault as chaos erupted in the streets. The monk, a fierce critic of the persecution faced by Hindu Bengalis since the regime change that ousted Sheikh Hasina, has become a target for speaking out against the suffering of his community.
As the situation spiraled into violence, police forces unleashed brutality, leaving many protesters injured and battered in their quest for justice.
Hindu groups across Bangladesh have condemned the government, led by Muhammad Yunus, accusing it of waging war on their community and silencing any dissent. They allege that Chinmoy Prabhu is being persecuted for his vocal opposition to the violent repression of Bengali Hindus. With over 100 lives lost in protests since the regime change, this crackdown is seen as an all-out attack on their very existence and freedom.
