Rare 132-kg tigerfish stuns locals, earns seller $1062 in hours

A 132-kg tigerfish displayed at the market has created a sensation among locals, drawing large crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the extraordinary catch.

The incident took place at Besik Charali Bazar of Hailakandi district, Assam, the video went viral on January 15. 

The visual shows both children and adults staring in amazement at the fish placed on the table. Everyone is eager to see and touch it. Some children playfully put their hands in its mouth, while adults are recording videos of the fish by opening its mouth.

The massive fish, believed to be the first of its kind seen in the district, drew a large crowd, including enthusiastic children, eager to witness the unusual catch. 

According to reports, the tigerfish, sold at ₹700 (USD 8.08) per kg, was quickly sliced into portions and purchased within hours, earning the seller approximately ₹92,000 (USD 1062.50). The high demand led to advance bookings, leaving some customers unable to buy the fish. Despite the buzz, little is known about where the tigerfish was caught or which fishermen brought it to the market. Its sudden appearance has left locals speculating about its origin.
