Rainy roads turn risky: Head-on bus collision injures 34
Heavy rain and poor visibility caused a head-on collision between two buses leaving several people injured.
The incident took place at Kallerirmala of Kannur district in Kerala on December 2.
Visuals show that two buses were coming from opposite directions, and due to heavy rain, both buses collided with each other.
According to reports, a total of 34 passengers from both Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses were injured and have been admitted to hospitals for treatment. While the majority of those injured sustained non-serious injuries, the driver of one of the buses is reported to have suffered severe injuries. Emergency services, including the Fire Force, arrived at the scene promptly and assisted in rescuing the passengers, transporting them to nearby hospitals in Peravur, Irutti, and surrounding areas. The bus traveled from Mananthavady to Payyannur.
The incident occurred on a relatively narrow road, compounded by heavy rainfall in the region at the time. Initial assessments suggest that the poor visibility caused by the rain may have contributed to the collision. The crash caused significant damage to the front of one of the buses. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
