Rainwater causes collapse of newly built house in northern India

A two-storey house under construction in Northern India’s Rajasthan collapsed within seconds due to accumulated rainwater, leaving the owner devastated.

The incident took place in Rajendra Nagar of Pali district on August 6.
Visuals showed first, one wall of the house gave way. Moments later, the entire structure fell apart within seconds.

According to reports, the house, built with an investment of approximately 2.5 million rupees (around $30,000 USD), was nearly complete, with plans to move in during the auspicious Diwali festival.

The owner, Raju Sain, who works as a welder, had been constructing the house on a 20×50 plot for several months. The exterior plastering work was underway, and the house was nearly ready with light and water fittings installed. However, heavy rainfall over the past three days caused water to accumulate up to four feet around the house, weakening its foundation.

On Monday, Sain noticed a crack forming in the back wall of the house. Upon receiving a call from his wife, he rushed to the site and saw the crack widening. Realizing the imminent danger, everyone moved away from the house. First, one wall collapsed, and within minutes, the entire structure came down.

Sain expressed his grief, saying, I had built the house by spending lakhs of rupees, and I had thought of doing the Muhurta on Diwali. But the merciless rain collapsed the house.

The collapse buried many belongings, including a scooter, RCC rods, and doors, under the debris. Local residents were seen consoling Sain, who was in tears at the scene.

Sain had invested 20 to 25 lakh rupees (approximately $24,000 to $30,000 USD) into the construction of the house. He had planned to move in during the Diwali festival after performing a housewarming ceremony. Unfortunately, due to the weakened foundation caused by rainwater, the house collapsed, resulting in a significant financial loss and emotional distress for the family.
