Rain causes havoc but also douses forest fires in northern India

Alongside the torrential rainfall, fires raging in forests douse off in northern India’s Uttarakhand.

The incident took place in Bageshwar district on May 8.

Visuals showed flooded roads, muddy water blocking the way, causing chaos for commuters. It was like a flood, making travel difficult.

This year’s first major spell of rain has led to a few roads being blocked and water entering houses in some parts of Uttarakhand. A silver lining to the tragedy, however, is that fires raging in forests were doused in some of the places where the rainfall occurred.

In some parts of the Kumaon region of Almora district, the rainfall led to forest fires being extinguished. When the Forest Officials, the Indian Army, and the Government tried to control the forest fire and failed, the rain became a saviour. People of Uttarakhand sighed in relief after the year’s first major spell of rain.
