Update: Python swallows calf whole, rescued after fierce struggle in northern India

In a dramatic incident in northern India’s Rajasthan, a 15-foot-long python swallowed a 20-kg Nilgai calf whole. The snake had to be rescued by a team led by snake catcher Surendra Singh, who narrowly avoided multiple attacks from the massive reptile during the operation.

The incident took place in Bar village, located in the Raipur sub-division of Beawar district on September 3.

Visuals showed in a forest area, a massive python had swallowed an entire Nilgai calf. The rescue team arrived at the scene, facing a daunting and risky task. Slowly, they first managed to pull out the calf’s legs from the python’s mouth, working carefully and steadily until the whole body of the calf was removed.

During the rescue operation, a team from the forest department was also present, observing the challenging situation. The calf was still trapped inside the snake’s body, creating a tense atmosphere as the rescuers meticulously worked to free it.

A 15-foot-long python made headlines in Rajasthan’s Beawar district after it swallowed a 20-kg Nilgai calf, creating panic among local villagers.

The python, after devouring its large prey, hid in the bushes. Nearby herders spotted the snake and immediately informed forest officials, fearing for their livestock. The forest department team, led by snake catcher Surendra Singh, rushed to the scene for the rescue.

Singh reported that as they approached the python, it became aggressive, lunging and attempting to bite despite the weight of its heavy meal. The snake jumped up to a meter high during its repeated attacks, forcing the team to proceed cautiously.

After a strenuous effort, the python was finally subdued. In its bid to escape, it regurgitated the Nilgai calf it had swallowed, which explained the sudden weight gain noticed by the rescuers. The local herders had earlier seen a Nilgai herd with a calf, likely the python’s prey.

The python, weighing about 45 kg after consuming the calf, was carefully transported by four men in a sack to a nearby road and released into the dense forest.

During the operation, Singh suffered a snake bite on his finger despite wearing gloves. The sharp fangs of the python pierced through the glove, causing significant bleeding. Singh received immediate medical treatment and is recovering well.
