Public outrage erupts after pregnant woman seen cleaning blood-stained bed of deceased husband in central India
In a distressing incident in central India’s Madhya Pradesh, a pregnant woman was allegedly made to clean a blood-soaked hospital bed following her husband’s death.
The incident took place in Lalpur village of Dindori district on October 31.
Visuals showed the woman holding a blood-stained cloth as she cleaned the bed, with a young child standing beside her.
According to reports, the deceased husband and his three sons were attacked by a mob while attempting to reclaim land awarded to them in a 2018 court ruling. Tragically, the father and one son died on the spot, while another son, Shivraj, was taken to Gadasarai Health Centre but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the release of the footage, hospital staff received a show-cause notice. Dr. Chandrashekar Tekam of the health center clarified that Roshni, the widow, was not instructed to clean but was collecting blood-soaked clothes to gather evidence.
The mob, consisting of 20 to 25 attackers armed with sticks and sharp tools, assaulted the family. Ramraj, the only surviving family member, managed to escape with injuries and called for assistance. Police have since arrested four suspects related to the victims, while three others remain at large.
Authorities have filed charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder. The third son, who is critically injured, is receiving care at the district hospital.
