Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in response to escalating violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, following the recent resignation and departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The unrest has led to casualties and widespread damage, prompting urgent appeals for peace and protection from both local and international figures.

The incident took place at Dhaka on August 9.

Visuals showed during the protest in Dhaka, a demonstrator displayed a placard condemning violence against Hindu communities, while thousands of Hindus chanted slogans, held banners, and called for peace amidst the ongoing unrest.

According to reports Dhaka witnessed a significant protest as demonstrators voiced their anger over the recent spate of violence targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. The violence, which has intensified since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation earlier this week, has resulted in the death of a school teacher and injuries to at least 45 individuals. Hindu homes, businesses, and temples have been severely impacted, with attacks reported in 52 of the country’s 64 districts.

Protesters, some of whom carried posters demanding the safety of Bangladeshi minorities, chanted slogans and blocked major intersections in the capital. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has sought intervention from Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, who recently assumed leadership of a caretaker administration, to address the crisis.

In response to the unrest, the United Nations Secretary-General has called for an immediate halt to the violence and condemned racially motivated attacks. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also issued a call for the protection of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Yunus, in his inaugural address, pledged to uphold democracy, justice, and human rights, aiming to restore peace and stability across the nation.
