Preventative measure triggers minor avalanche leaves tourists shaken

A controlled blast on the ski slopes triggered a minor avalanche, causing panic among tourists. No loss or damage occurred.

The minor avalanche occurred in northern India’s Kashmir, in Gulmarg town, on January 7.

Visuals showed tourists looking confused and panicked while watching the scenario from a safe place; some of them were capturing the moment on video. A minor avalanche was seen coming down from the top of the slope towards the people. It came to a stop well before reaching the crowd.

According to the officials of the tourist department, the blast was a controlled event conducted as a part of a routine winter exercise to mitigate potential avalanche risks in the future. The operation was managed under the supervision of the snow safety officer and his team.

These protective steps are taken to keep the popular skiing destination safe for tourists and locals.
