Political leader and aides caught on video brutally assaulting individual in eastern India

In a shocking development, a fresh video has surfaced showing Jayant Singh, a prominent figure associated with the TMC(Trinamool Congress), and his accomplices mercilessly beating an individual in eastern India’s West Bengal.

According to local police, the incident took place in Kamarhati, a locality within the North 24 Parganas district in March 2021 but it went viral on July 9.

Visuals showed Jayant Singh, wearing a white scarf on his head, and his men holding a person by their hands and legs and others beating them up with sticks. Singh is heard ordering his aides to hit the person on her back as they scream in pain.

The video, shared by BJP West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar, depicts Jayant Singh and his associates holding a person by their legs and arms while repeatedly striking them with sticks. Singh, known for his close ties to TMC MLA Madan Mitra, can be seen giving orders during the assault at the Taltala Club in Kamarhati. The victim’s identity and the circumstances leading to the assault are currently under investigation by local authorities.

Earlier this month, Jayant Singh and nine others were arrested in connection with a separate mob assault case in Ariadaha, where a college student and his mother were targeted. This incident, along with the recent video, has intensified criticism of lawlessness and alleged political patronage of criminal activities in West Bengal.

Reacting to the video, BJP leaders Amit Malviya and others condemned what they described as a pattern of violence and intimidation by TMC affiliates. Malviya cited previous incidents and accused the state government of failing to uphold law and order, particularly concerning crimes against women.

In response, TMC spokesperson Riju Dutta dismissed the video as old and accused the BJP of attempting to tarnish the party’s image following their electoral defeat. TMC leaders reiterated their commitment to zero tolerance for crimes and assured that all perpetrators, including those involved in the recent incident, would face legal consequences.

The circulation of such videos and the ensuing political fallout underscores the ongoing tensions between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP in West Bengal, highlighting broader concerns over governance and security in the state.
