Police seize significant cache of cash and jewelry ahead of elections in southern India
Law enforcement officials conducted a targeted raid in southern India’s Karnataka, uncovering a substantial amount of cash along with a significant haul of gold and silver jewelry.
The incident took place at Hema Jewellers in Kambali Bazaar in Ballari on April 7.
Visuals showed police meticulously arranged the confiscated assets on a table: stacks of cash, gleaming gold, and shimmering silver in the aftermath of the raid. The sheer volume of currency notes was notably abundant, sprawled across the surface, hinting at the magnitude of the seizure.
In a targeted operation on Sunday, Karnataka Police seized assets valued at Rs 7.6 crore (USD 912829.92), including cash, gold, and silver jewelry, from the residence of Naresh Soni, the proprietor of Hema Jewellers located in Kambali Bazaar, Ballari.
The confiscated items comprised Rs 5.60 crore (USD 672611.52) in cash, 3 kilograms of gold, and 103 kilograms of silver jewelry, accompanied by 68 silver bars. Following the raid, Naresh Soni was apprehended and subjected to interrogation by law enforcement officials. Police suspect the seized assets to be linked to illicit Hawala transactions.
A case has been formally filed by authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged financial activities.
