Late Thursday night, law enforcement authorities descended upon a property nestled in the serene neighborhood of Ashoka Garden, Bhopal. Acting on actionable intelligence, the police raided the residence of businessman Kailash Khatri, suspected of involvement in illicit currency exchange activities.

Inside Khatri’s domicile, investigators made a startling discovery – a treasure trove of cash cunningly concealed within a box nestled beneath a bed. The assortment of currency notes, ranging from tattered 1 rupee bills to crisp 500 rupee denominations, left the authorities astounded. Preliminary estimates suggest the recovered sum amounts to millions of rupees, marking one of the most significant cash seizures in recent times.

Kailash Khatri, known for his involvement in currency exchange operations, had been under the police radar for some time. His modus operandi involved exchanging worn-out notes for new ones, initially facilitated through Punjab National Bank until their cessation of such services in 2020.

Undeterred by the closure of conventional channels, Khatri resorted to hoarding both old and new notes within the confines of his residence. Subsequently, he embarked on journeys to major cities like Delhi and Mumbai to continue his currency exchange endeavors.

The raid not only resulted in Khatri’s apprehension but also led to the detention of three other individuals suspected of complicity in his illicit activities. Authorities are currently engaged in the meticulous process of tallying and scrutinizing the seized currency notes.
