Police recover 800 stolen, lost phones worth 288,000 USD in 35 days in southern India
In a significant crackdown on mobile theft in southern India’s Telangana, Police successfully recovered 800 lost and stolen mobile phones worth 288,000 USD. (Rs 2.40 crore) within 35 days.
The Indian took place at the Cyberabad Commissionerate Main Conference Hall in Cyberabad on October 23.
Visuals showed a formal event held by the police, a long table was filled with dozens of recovered mobile phones, neatly arranged in rows. Each phone had been stolen and later retrieved by the police. The event saw the rightful owners invited to collect their devices. One by one, the owners stepped forward to receive their phones, which were handed back with care. The atmosphere was filled with relief and gratitude as each individual regained their lost belongings.
According to reports police, the recovery was facilitated through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. On Wednesday, at a formal event, the phones were returned to their owners.
DCP Crimes K Narasimha, IPS, highlighted the coordinated efforts across various divisions: “In the past 35 days, Cyberabad Police have recovered 800 mobile phones. Among them, 135 were recovered by the Madhapur CCS, 140 by Balanagar CCS, 101 by Medchal CCS, 133 by Rajendranagar CCS, 72 by Shamshabad CCS, 105 by Medchal Zone, and 101 by the IT Cell.”
The DCP also urged citizens to report mobile thefts immediately via the dedicated helpline 1930 or the cybercrime.gov.in portal. The event saw many recipients expressing their gratitude to the police for recovering their stolen devices in a timely manner.
