Police bust sandalwood smuggling racket, eight inter-state thieves arrested in southern India

Eight inter-state thieves were arrested as the police busted a sandalwood smuggling racket in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh.
This happened in Chittoor district on May 29.
Visuals showed the seized sandalwood along with the vehicles and the two vehicles which were also seized by the police. According to a report, police received confidential information about sandalwood being smuggled from Seshachalam forests of Tirupati. P Narsimha Reddy, an inspector of Bangurapalayam and his staff were checking vehicles at the Mahasundram Toll Gate located on Chittoor-Palamaner road when they seized the sandalwood.
The police suspected two cars which were headed towards Bengaluru from Chittoor and upon being stopped, 16 red sandalwood logs, worth Rs 30 lakhs ($36309.54) were seized. The two cars which were intercepted, were also seized and their worth was around Rs 10 lakhs ($12103.18). A case has been registered against the thieves at the Bangarpalayam police station.
