Pilgrims clash with police vandalizing e-rickshaw in northern India during annual religious festival
During the Kanwar Yatra, a significant Hindu pilgrimage in northern India’s Uttarakhand, a group of Kanwariyas, who are devotees of Lord Shiva, caused chaos in the town.
The incident took place in Libberheri canal track in the Mangalore Kotwali area in Roorkee town of Haridwar district and the video went viral on July 23.
Visuals showed the Kanwars vandalizing the e-rickshaw by hitting it with sticks.
According to reports, an e-rickshaw driver was driving his vehicle when it collided with a Kanwariya, causing the Kanwariya minor injuries.
In retaliation, the Kanwariyas first assaulted the e-rickshaw driver and then vandalized the e-rickshaw using sticks. A large crowd quickly gathered at the scene. Despite the presence of policemen, the Kanwariyas continued their vandalism unabated. The police made efforts to stop them, but the Kanwariyas did not heed their warnings.

Both the injured Kanwariya and the e-rickshaw driver were taken to the hospital for treatment. SP Rural Swapan Kishore Singh stated that an investigation is underway and that action will be taken against those found guilty. The police are now thoroughly investigating the entire matter.
