Passenger nabbed for smuggling gold paste worth $95,778 at airport

Customs officials at an airport foiled a smuggling attempt, seizing 1.259 kg of gold paste worth USD 95,778 (₹81.76 lakh) from a male passenger who had arrived from Dubai.

The incident took place at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in the New Delhi district of Delhi, northern India on December 25.

Visuals show a customs official opening a bag and extracting four oval-shaped capsules, later placed on a weighing scale.

According to reports, a Bangladeshi male passenger arrived on Flight No. 6E-1464. Acting on suspicions about his travel pattern, officials conducted a thorough examination of his baggage and a personal search. They discovered four wet capsules containing gold paste, weighing 1,259 grams (including packaging), concealed in his sock. From these capsules, a 24-karat gold bar weighing 1,101 grams was extracted, valued at ₹81,76,114.

During questioning, the passenger admitted to smuggling the gold in paste form from Dubai, intending to deliver it in Delhi. The gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, and the passenger was arrested under Section 104 of the same Act.
