Paragliding session ends in tragedy for teen
A young girl dies during a paragliding ride along with the pilot who sustained injuries at the paragliding site.
The incident took place at the Indrunag paragliding site in Dharamshala town of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, northern India, on January 18.
Visuals show the duo struggling to maintain balance during take-off, with the girl appearing to injure her leg before falling.
According to reports, the paragliding canopy collapsed during take-off, causing Khushi a 19-year-old, and the 29-year-old pilot to fall down the hill. Despite attempts to revive her, Khushi was declared dead at the scene. The injured pilot was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Khushi, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had travelled to Himachal Pradesh with her family for a holiday. The family had booked a paragliding session, which turned out to be a tragic mistake.
Authorities have registered a case of negligence and initiated an investigation into the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the paragliding session took place around sunset, at 5:45 pm, despite regulations restricting operations to before 5 pm.
Officials are probing whether violations of safety norms contributed to the accident. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of adventure sports in the region.
Khushi’s body has been sent to Zonal Hospital Dharamshala for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to her family. The incident has left the family and locals in shock, highlighting the need for stricter safety regulations and adherence to safety norms.
