Officials seize $3,53,466 worth of smuggled gold from car in southern India

The incident took place in Hyderabad on September 11.
Visuals showed a large quantity of hidden gold was seized from a car, which was caught smuggling the precious metal. The gold was cleverly concealed inside the vehicle—some hidden in a secret compartment, and the rest embedded in a specially designed cavity within the trunk’s frame. The car was intercepted as it was en route from Kolkata to Hyderabad, and the concealed gold was recovered, revealing a sophisticated smuggling operation.
Acting on specific intelligence about the smuggling of foreign-origin gold, DRI officers intercepted a white TATA Nexon on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Upon investigation, they discovered the gold hidden in two cleverly designed cavities within the vehicle. The first cavity was located beneath the dashboard on the left side of the driver’s seat, while the second was embedded in the trunk’s frame.
The total recovered gold weighed 3982.070 grams, with an estimated value of Rs. 2,94,55,372. Both the gold and the car were seized, and the two individuals traveling in the vehicle were arrested under the Customs Act, of 1962. The investigation into this smuggling case is ongoing.
