Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that restoration work on the up and down lines was over as a train passed through it after the shocking three-train accident in eastern India’s Odisha.
This happened in Balasore district on June 4.
Visuals showed the train passing through the restored track as Vaishnaw and other men stood beside. The Railway Minister also waved his hands at the passing train before praying after the restoration work was successfully done. The horrific accident involved the Coromandel Express, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train at the Bahanaga Bazar Railway Station. It has left close to 300 people dead and 1000 injured.
As per a report, the up-line train movement also started 51 hours after the accident, leaving the tracks severely damaged. The accident reportedly took place due to change in electronic interlocking. “Normal traffic movement has resumed on both the lines,” a statement by South Eastern Railways said.
The Railway board has also called for a probe into this matter by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
