In a shocking daylight attack, an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) named Sukhchain Singh was shot multiple times in his home in Daburji village, located in northern India’s Punjab.
The incident took place in Amritsar district on August 24.
Visuals showed the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and entered the house while the children were playing. One of the gunmen approached Sukhchain Singh and forced him at gunpoint into a bedroom. When Singh resisted, the assailants shot him at close range, all while his children begged for mercy. The entire family was inside the house during the attack and tried desperately to save him.
According to reports, the incident occurred when two armed assailants forced their way into Singh’s home, where he was present with his children.
After the assailants fled the scene, Singh was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar, where his condition remains critical. Authorities believe the attack may be linked to a property dispute involving Singh’s in-laws. Notably, Sukhchain Singh had recently returned from the United States, where he resides, and was in the process of purchasing a hotel and a luxury vehicle.
Amritsar’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vishaljit Singh, informed the media that the police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and have launched an investigation to uncover the motive and identify the attackers. The family has indicated that no ransom demand was made, leading police to consider the involvement of a local gang.
