Nine women injured after building collapse during ganpati visarjan procession in western India

The incident took place at Barwa Village, Lakhandur Taluka, Bhandara District on September 18.
Visuals showed during the Ganpati Visarjan, the atmosphere was vibrant with joy and celebration as people danced and reveled in the festivities. The street was packed with a large crowd, all caught up in the excitement of the festival. On one side, a group of people had gathered on the roof of a building, jumping and cheering with glee. The roof, unable to bear the weight and the movement, gave way abruptly. The entire roof collapsed, sending everyone on it crashing down to the ground below. The collapse created a chaotic scene as the people who had been dancing on the roof, along with debris, fell onto the crowded area beneath, leading to a sudden and tragic disruption of the celebration.
In a tragic turn of events during the Ganpati Visarjan procession in Barwa, Lakhandur taluka, a portion of an old building collapsed, leaving nine women injured. The incident took place around 6 p.m. on Wednesday when a large crowd climbed onto the roof of a building on the main market road to view the immersion.
The building, unable to support the weight of the crowd, gave way, but a tin shed below helped prevent a larger tragedy. Medical officer Chandrasuresh Dongarwar confirmed that those with minor injuries are now out of danger.
The mildly injured women were promptly taken to the nearby primary health center, while the more seriously injured victims, including 30-year-old Nandini Suresh Shendre, 40-year-old Archana Vijay Devhare, and 15-year-old Riya Revachand Shendre, were transferred to a hospital in Lakhandur for further treatment.
The women with minor injuries were identified as Anita Rajendra Sonwane (45), Mina Tilak Singh Bais (40), Pramila Shekhar Jambhulkar (40), Chandrakala Mohan Sonwane (42), Nutan Narendra Nakade (36), and Dipali Dilip Gharde (35).
Authorities are investigating the building’s structural issues and crowd control measures during such events to prevent future accidents.
