Narrow escape! Two trains arrive on the same track in eastern India

In a bizarre incident in eastern India’s West Bengal the Vande Bharat Express and a local train were seen on the same track, just meters apart.

The incident took place on the Bardhaman Chord Line near Sibaichandi Station of Kolkata city and the video went viral on August 1.

Visuals showed the Vande Bharat Express and the local train on the same track, with passengers recording the scene from the platform. The passengers at the scene looked distressed while some were seen recording the scene on their devices.

According to reports, the local train was standing at the home signal before entering the station, traveling from Howrah to Bardhaman via Kamarkundu. At that time, the Vande Bharat train, which had left Howrah for NJP, approached the home signal of Shivachandi Station. After entering the station, the Vande Bharat train was made to stop and resumed its journey only after the local train had left. DRM Sanjeev Kumar stated, “In special situations within the auto signal zone, such occurrences happen. Trains are made to stop at a certain distance behind another. Due to the automatic signal, one train cannot come too close to another. This is not a matter of an accident.”

Recent train accidents have raised questions about railway passenger safety. On Tuesday, the Howrah-Mumbai Express derailed in Chakradharpur. On Wednesday, several wagons of a goods train derailed at Rangapani. About a month ago, there was an accident involving the Kanchanjungha Express. These incidents have sparked concerns about passenger safety once again.
