Narrow escape! Train splits into two in northern India, passengers stranded

A major accident was narrowly avoided in northern India’s Rajasthan when the Nanda Devi Express train split into two parts.

The incident occurred between the Bharatpur and Sevar railway stations in the Bharatpur district on August 12.

Visuals showed the train divided into two sections, with concerned passengers standing by as the train staff inspected the situation.

According to reports, Senior DCM Rohit Malviya stated that the incident occurred around 7 a.m. The train remained stationary on the tracks for about an hour, causing inconvenience to passengers. Fortunately, the train was traveling at a low speed, preventing the coaches from derailing. The separation was caused by a coupling failure between coaches A3 and A4, which resulted in the coaches detaching from the engine. The train had 16 coaches; after the separation, 6 coaches continued with the engine, while the remaining 10 were left behind. Passengers reported that the train had already departed Bharatpur about 20 minutes behind schedule.

When the train split, it lost pressure, causing it to remain stationary for an extended period. Upon receiving information about the incident, the guard, driver, train staff, station staff, and passengers responded promptly. The section of the train that had moved ahead was brought back and reattached. Afterwards, the train resumed its journey. The Nanda Express train later departed from Kota at 11:30 a.m., approximately an hour behind its scheduled departure time of 10:30 a.m.
