Nancy Pelosi visits Dalai Lama in northern India amid rising US-China tensions

Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has arrived in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh for a significant meeting with the Dalai Lama, highlighting her ongoing support for Tibet.

The incident took place at Kangra Airport on June 18.

Visuals showed the U.S. delegation, including Nancy Pelosi, arrived at the airport, where officials from the Central Tibetan Administration warmly received them. The officials greeted the delegation with friendly handshakes and respectful “namaste” gestures, creating a scene of cordial and heartfelt welcome.

Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, has arrived in Himachal Pradesh at Kangra airport. She is scheduled to meet with the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, in Dharamshala.

Pelosi is part of a prominent six-member delegation from the US that includes Gregory W. Meeks, Jim McGovern, Ami Bera, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, and Nicole Malliotakis.

Upon disembarking, Pelosi expressed her enthusiasm: “It is very exciting to be here.”

This visit comes just before the Dalai Lama’s planned medical trip to the US for knee treatment. The nature of his engagements in the US remains uncertain.
