Municipal garbage truck runs over 4-year-old in northern India
A 4-year-old boy was critically injured after being run over by a municipal garbage truck while playing outside his home in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh. The driver fled the scene, causing public outrage. Authorities have taken action against the driver, and the injured child is receiving medical care at the district hospital.
The incident took place in the Shahi Chabutra neighborhood of Nagar Kotwali in Amroha district on October 7.
Visuals showed as usual, the garbage truck was parked in the narrow lane, with residents tossing their waste into it. Nearby, children were playing outside their homes, filling the street with the sounds of their games. Once everyone had deposited their trash, the truck began to move forward. In an unfortunate turn, the truck ran over a child who was playing in front of it. Panic struck immediately. A crowd quickly gathered around, rushing to lift the injured child. The atmosphere turned chaotic, with people shouting and scrambling to help. The once quiet lane descended into confusion as the incident unfolded.
Amroha witnessed a tragic incident yesterday morning when a municipal garbage collection vehicle ran over 4-year-old Sarthak, who was playing outside his home. The child, son of Rajneesh Kumar, was severely injured when the garbage truck driver hit him around 9 a.m.
Following the accident, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, leaving Sarthak critically injured. Local residents quickly gathered, and tempers flared as the community expressed outrage over the incident. Municipal employees and officials rushed to the scene to calm the situation.
Sarthak was immediately transported to the district hospital, where his condition remains serious. Executive Officer (EO) Dr. Brijesh Kumar confirmed that the driver responsible for the accident has been removed from duty. The incident has also been captured on CCTV footage, and further investigations are underway. The municipal chairman’s son, Nikhil Jain, visited the family and assured them of full support during this difficult time.
