Multiple lives lost after under-construction bridge collapses in northeastern India
Atleast 18 people died after an under-construction bridge collapsed in northeastern India’s Mizoram.
This happened in Sairang town of Aizawl district on August 23.

Visuals showed the Border Security Force (BSF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials coming to the aid of the victims of this tragedy. They were seen carrying out bodies of those who died and also helping to save the ones trapped.
According to a report, there were 26 workers who were present when the bridge collapsed. So far, 18 bodies have been recovered, although it is believed that 23 have died in this incident. Officials have also stated that three injured are admitted to the hospital while five remain missing. The 18 who have lost their lives in this incident, have been identified as,Naba Chawdury, Mojammel Haque, Narim Rahman, Ranjit Sarkar, Kashim Sheikh, Samrul Haque, Jhallu Sarkar, Sakirul Sheikh, Masrekul Haque, Saidur Rahman, Rahim Sheikh, Suman Sarkar, Sariful Sheikh, Insarul Haque, Jayanta Sarkar, Md. Jahidul Sekh, Manirul Nadap and Sebul Mia.
The Mizoram government issued a statement, which read, “A railway bridge no. 196 near Sairang Zero Point which was under construction collapsed… The bodies of 18 persons were recovered while three injured were rescued.”
The bridge was an effort to connect all the capitals of the northeastern states in the country and was being made over the Kurung river. As per a report, the girder, which is the structure on which a railway track is laid, collapsed which led to this incident. After this incident, a high-level committee has been made to investigate this incident. They also have announced Rs 10 lakh each ($12,114.13) for the relatives of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh each ($ 2422.83) for the ones who were seriously injured and Rs 50,000 each for those victims who had minor injuries in this accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his condolences for the victims and announced that Rs 2 lakh ($ 2422.83) would be given to those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 ($ 605.71) for the ones injured.
