Mother pleads helplessly as son gets beaten by doctors in northern India’s hospital
A horrifying incident at a hospital in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh has left an elderly mother, Kunni Devi, traumatized after she helplessly witnessed her son being brutally beaten by junior doctors over a minor argument. Despite her desperate pleas, the doctors continued the assault behind closed doors, while police on the scene struggled to intervene.
The incident took place at Ward 12 of SRN Hospital (Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital) in Prayagraj district on September 2.
Visuals showed inside a hospital ward, a group of junior doctors was brutally assaulting a man. They were not only hitting him with extreme cruelty but had also torn his shirt during the beating. The man’s helpless mother was there, desperately trying to intervene. She was pleading with the doctors, hands folded, begging them to stop hurting her son. Despite her tearful pleas, the doctors continued their ruthless attack. Meanwhile, another person was recording the scene on video, but the furious doctors, noticing this, angrily demanded that the camera be put away, adding to the intensity of the situation.
In a shocking incident at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj Kunni Devi, an elderly woman from Banda, witnessed a traumatic scene when her son Rohit was mercilessly beaten by a group of junior doctors. Kunni Devi had come to the hospital with her son, nephew, and daughter-in-law for medical treatment. The trouble began in Ward 12 when a disagreement broke out between Rohit and the doctors over showing a medical report and medication.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Despite Kunni Devi’s frantic attempts to intervene and her tearful pleas for mercy, the doctors continued to beat Rohit. Even when police constables arrived on the scene, the doctors carried on with the assault behind closed doors, ignoring the officers’ attempts to diffuse the situation.
Eyewitnesses tried to capture the incident on video, but their phones were snatched away in the chaos. Kunni Devi, who had always considered doctors as divine healers, said her trust in them has been shattered after this horrific incident. She mentioned in her statement to the police that she had come to the hospital believing in the sanctity and care of the medical profession, only to experience the opposite.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with a video of the brutal attack going viral. However, despite the uproar and the police report filed by the victims, no FIR was lodged until late at night. The police are investigating all aspects of the case, including allegations of misconduct and abuse by the doctors.
Dr. Vatsala Mishra, Principal of the Medical College, and Dr. Ajay Saxena, Chief Superintendent of Swaroop Rani Hospital, were contacted multiple times for their statements, but no response was received. Meanwhile, the President of the Resident Doctor Association, Sachin Kumar, stated that they are aware of the matter and that it is currently under investigation.
