Massive fire breaks out in IGL pipeline in northern India
A massive fire broke out in an IGL pipeline while a sewer was being laid with a bulldozer in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place on Kuti Road, Bhopura in Ghaziabad district on June 21.
Visuals showed flames roaring and black smoke surging from the IGL pipeline fire. The crowd watched the fire in shock and distress from a safe distance.
According to the reports officials, Arun Pratap, Executive Engineer at Jal Nigam, stated, “Digging was being done on the side of Jal Nigam. The fire broke out after the IGL pipeline was damaged. The fire was extinguished. Four employees suffered minor burns.”
Reportedly, they were discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid.
Reports stated that before digging, IGL staff was informed and asked to stop the gas, but they did not stop the gas supply. The pipeline got damaged while digging with a bulldozer. As soon as the information was received, the IGL team arrived to repair the pipeline. The team started repairing the pipeline without stopping the gas supply.
Officials narrated that a power line was passing through the area. The gas pipeline caught fire due to electric sparks. The fire lasted for 20 minutes while locals extinguished it by pouring mud.
