Massive destruction! 50,000 trees uprooted by tornado-like winds in southern India

In a rare and devastating weather event in southern India’s Telangana, approximately 50,000 trees were uprooted by severe rains and tornado-like winds across 200 hectares in the Eturnagaram forest.

The incident took place in Mulugu district on September 4.

Visuals showed the severe impact of the tornado-like winds as massive trees were seen collapsed, with logs scattered along the road over a long stretch. The destruction has left the region in disarray, with significant damage to the green cover of the area.

According to reports, the incident, which occurred two days ago, was discovered during a recent inspection by forest officials. The uprooting of a wide variety of trees was caused by an unusual combination of heavy rains and strong winds, a phenomenon unprecedented in the Telangana region. Forest authorities are implementing strict measures to protect the affected land and wildlife. Enhanced security and monitoring are in place to prevent illegal logging, as the fallen logs of valuable wood are at risk of being targeted by poachers and residents.
