A 17-foot-long Burmese python weighing approximately 100 kilograms was discovered in a human habitat and rescued from a university campus.
The incident occurred on December 18 at Assam University, located in the Barak Valley of Silchar district, Assam.
The video shows the enormous snake moving slowly through the drain. Later, six to seven people are seen holding the snake as they walk, with a crowd following them.
According to reports, the massive snake was first spotted near Girls’ Hostel Number 1 at around 10:30 pm and was later rescued near the campus gymnasium.
The rescue operation was led by Bishal Sonar and Trikal Chakraborty, a wildlife conservationist and snake rescuer. Despite its size and weight, the team, with the help of students and campus security, successfully relocated the python to the Barail Wildlife Sanctuary.
After the rescue was completed under the supervision of forest officials, Trikal Chakraborty, the designated snake rescuer for the Barak Valley Wildlife Division, remarked, “I have encountered even larger snakes in the wild, but this is likely the biggest Burmese python ever rescued from human habitat in the history of Barak Valley. I have been rescuing snakes for seven years, and when I received a call from Assam University last night, I immediately responded. I couldn’t have managed without the support of the university’s students, who were incredibly helpful. We later released it in a designated woodland area.”
