Marijuana trading exposed in southern India college, police make swift arrests

In a significant incident in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh, police acted swiftly following a tip-off from teachers regarding students trading and consuming marijuana in a government college.

The incident took place in Kuppam city of Chittoor district on October 28.

Visuals showed several rooms filled with seized drugs in police custody under strict monitoring. A police official was later seen giving a detailed statement on the operation.

According to reports, the investigation began when teachers alerted authorities about students’ involvement with marijuana. Within a month, officers registered four cases, uncovering ganja fields in the Ramakuppam and Shantipuram areas, leading to the seizure of 84 kg of raw ganja and 1.20 kg of dried ganja. Six suspects were detained, but suspicions remain about the extent of cannabis cultivation in the nearby forested regions.

Reports also suggest marijuana is being transported in liquid, cigarette, and chocolate forms, sparking concern among locals over the rising drug culture in the traditionally peaceful Kuppam. Parents are increasingly worried as some young people have been admitted to rehabilitation centers due to drug addiction. Locals express concern about the impact of illegal trade, as rumors hint at drugs entering from neighboring states.
