Man grows high-tech marijuana inside apartment, police seized 80 plants
A man from northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, was arrested for allegedly growing marijuana in a high-tech setup within his apartment.
The incident occurred in Greater Noida, located in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district, on November 11.
Visuals showed a room filled with marijuana plants grown indoors, alongside pesticides, insecticides, and farming tools.
According to reports, the suspect as Rahul Chaudhary, a resident of Flat No. 1001, Tower 5, in the Parsvnath Panorama society. Police seized 80 marijuana plants, 2 kg of dried cannabis, and various pesticides and insecticides from his apartment.
Chaudhary had reportedly been cultivating premium “OG” cannabis in over 50 pots for four months, allegedly distributing it via the dark web. His operation was discovered through a coordinated effort involving officials from Beta-2 and Ecotech-1 police stations and the district’s Anti-Narcotics Team.
The inspection revealed that Chaudhary had converted rooms into a cannabis cultivation facility with over 50 pots and specialized lighting equipment to simulate optimal growing conditions indoors.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Saad Miya Khan, Chaudhary had been growing cannabis for about six months, inspired by web series and crime dramas to establish the illegal setup in his flat.
Each plant cost between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000 to cultivate, producing high-grade cannabis that reportedly sold for over Rs 60,000 per 30 grams. Authorities have filed a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
